INTERNAL MONITORING SYSTEM AT PRODUCERS
Starting this year Apikri take steps on Fair Trade Guarantee System updated . One of the activities if Internal Monitoring at producers . For this purpose Apikri choose some producers who get continuously order to be monitored about the fair trade implementation with the Internal Monitoring System. The producers who monitored such us coffin producer ( Mr. Purwanto ), silver producer ( Mr. Lasmanu ), Leather (Mr. Wakhid ), Batik Wood (Kemiskidi), Berkah Lestari ( Batik women group ) and others .
But that five producers as our main IMS since they monitored by WFTO Auditor in 2016 for Guarantee Fair Trade. Base on the Internal Monitoring System, Apikri got the points that must be improved for the producers . The product development needed for producers who their order reducing , some producers need improve the workshop and others need improvement for administration, some still difficult to give the salary in Minimum Wage Regional because of the price competition.
Reducing the order become the matters that felt by most of producers . This because of the buyers reduce the orders to Apikri . However product development must be done continuously by producers to gain and improve the market.

WORKSHOP OF FAIR TRADE FOR THE WORKERS OF SANGGAR PENI
At the middle of January Apikri arranged the workshop of fair trade for the workers of Sanggar Peni. Sanggar Peni is the business that run by Pak Kemiskidi ( batik wood producer ) of Apikri who has joined with Apikri since years ago. Pak Kemiskidi also one of producer who audited by World Fair Trade Organization when Apikri took the assessment of fair trade guarantee system . As the finding problem in Pak Kemiskidi to fulfill the fair trade was the wokers of Pak Kemiskidi didn’t’ know about fair trade.It become Apikri task to give knowledge to the workers so that they about fair trade . It is because Pak Kemiskidi get order from fair trade organization buyers.and also Pak Kemiskidi join with Apikri.
The workshop attended by around 40 persons consist of 30 workers and also some students from Universities who had research about small micro producers at Pak Kemiskidi . The session of fair trade was explained by Athi Munzilah a head of community development division of Apikri. She told about the history of fair trade , the organization of fair trade and fair trade principles that must be implemented by organization of fair trade such us Apikri including the producers who joined with Apikri or joined with other fair trade organization. Athi explained about fair trade in the simple way so that the participants can understand about fair trade. At least they know about the friendly products, friendly environment, healthy and safety condition , no child labour, fair wage in the business running.

At the end of the session there was the time for participants to ask some questions for the speaker. When they asked about what is fair trade some participants gave the answer that fair trade means that fair for customers , fair for suppliers , fair for environment . There will not forced labour in the working place, no child labour, waste management , friendly products.

Ciptowiyono , a producer of leather who is also a founder of Apikri passed away at the end of January. He is sick of cancer for some months. Let us remind about Pak Ciptowiyono. Learned his profile below:
Pak Cipto Wiyono a simple man who live in Yogyakarta. The desire to change the family’s economic life makes Cipto Wiyono encouraged to find better work to meet his family life needs. Pak Cipto who worked previously as the rickshaw driver, tried for the first time to make leather belt, which was marketed in Malioboro Street . In addition, to develop the business, Cipto actively join the exhibition of handicraft in Yogyakarta city or other cities. The he started to get order such us from Jakarta, Solo and Bali.
In 1986, while in the Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ) exhibition, Cipto introduce with PEKERTI. From it introduction, there was the mutually beneficial cooperation . PEKERTI started to give orders from the overseas buyer. Cipto’s type products start expanded, such as the belt, purse, wallet, to the other leather accessories. Usually, products designed by him self, and sometimes the buyers determine the design and product type selected.
Due to the distances which PEKERTI located in Jakarta, while Pak Cipto workshop in Yogyakarta , so Pekerti gave an idea to establish the organization such as PEKERTI in Yogyakarta. So Apikri was born where Pak Cipto is one of the founders . There are 21 persons who become founder of Apikri consist of small micro producers of handicraft, activist social and NGO..
In 2004 up to 2006 are the quiet order of leather product years for him. The leather sales decreased, moreover with the Bali bomb, the orders from the buyers in Bali decreased dramatically. The production volume decreasing is due to the competition in the world handicraft industry, and the difficulty of obtaining raw materials which is it prices increased more and more.
Cipto creates a leather-based product that combined with materials to overcome. Although the order is not as much as before, he will never stop to create and markets products, hopefully, leather handicraft will be devotees back with all of its development.
Cipto often introduce his newest products design to APIKRI, and follows the product development activities held by APIKRI diligently. Hopes APIKRI can be the bridge for the handicraft business advancement in Indonesia.
After Pak Cipto Wiyono passed away, his business continue with his children Mr. Waluyo.
